Company Profile

Established in February 2000 by David R. Fladd, Jacobian Technologies began as an optical engineering and consulting firm. This was near the peak of the telecom “bubble”, and optical engineering opportunites were many. Despite the crash of the telecom bubble in 2000 & 2001, Jacobian Technologies has not only survived, but grown each year. We have begun to add products to our offerings, in addition to optical engineering, design and consulting services. Entering our 6th year of operation, we foresee continued growth and addition of new products.

Niche Markets

Optical Engineering and Consulting Services
Now, and in the foreseeable future, experienced optical engineering resources are hard to come by. Often, businesses are faced with projects, experiments, or development needs that are too time consuming to complete quickly because of other distractions. An optical engineer is required, but there are too few resources available, a full-time employee is not required, or a position has not been filled yet the work needs to begin immediately. Jacobian Technologies is a perfect solution to these problems. We can work remotely or travel to your site, get up to speed and complete the task at hand with minimal guidance and quick turnaround. Think of Jacobian Technologies as a resource you can turn on or off at will, without worrying about paying benefits or other considerations required for a full-time employee. For large projects, we have set up a network of talented experts, highly skilled in their field, to work together to tackle projects that are too large for a single resource.

Optical Design Services
There are many small companies that are developing products that utilize optics in one way, shape, or form. Most small businesses are not able to hire a full time optical engineer, especially if not all products offered utilize optics. This is a perfect situation where Jacobian Technologies can be contracted to supply optical engineering and design services on an as-needed basis. The need exists. For proof, witness the horrible design and performance of most flashlights on the shelves these days. Its clear that these companies do not employ any optical design into their products.

Custom Metrology Equipment Development and Prototyping
We are very well qualified to take a customers need to measure a product attribute, and design and develop a turn-key automated system to measure that attribute with quick turnaround and at extremely competitive cost. We are able to do this due to our background in optics, software, experience in manufacturing, mechanical design, and controls. We are willing to do this for single systems or multiple.

Proprietary Information / Confidentiality Policy

Jacobian Technologies understands the importance of confidentiality and proprietary information. Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) will be signed at the customers request and honored with sincerity.

Where does the name “Jacobian” come from?

We get this question a lot! => The business name, Jacobian Technologies, comes from David Fladd’s two son's first names: Jacob and Ian. However, we pronounce it with a long O sound, ie. rhymes with “utopian”. One might also stumble across a Jacobian when studying vector calculus...
